TIERNAN DALY’S EARLY GOAL SENDS SUPER SAINTS TO THE LAST 32

Our Juniors took on Tipperary outfit Wilderness FC today in the last 64 of the FAI Junior Cup.

The affair took place at Mayfield United’s all weather pitch and Tiernan Daly’s goal in the opening minutes was proved to be enough for our lads who book their place in the round of 32.

The Saints were quick out of the blocks from the first whistle and gained an early lead when Colin O’Keefe squared the ball to Tiernan Daly to tap home and draw first blood. 1-0

The Clonmel side started to find their rhythm and put pressure on our backline but Eric Goggin and Ryan Daly stood firm and defended well to maintain the goal advantage going into half-time.

Wilderness FC knew it was all our nothing stepping back on to the pitch for the second half so a big performance was required from the lads in black and white.

Cian Hogan and Tiernan Daly worked tirelessly on the right hand side with Liam O’Brien playing a blinder in goal making save after save to keep us in front.

Craig Hourigan, Lee Duggan and Colin McCarthy kept the ship together with the visitors piling on the pressure in the final moments of the game.

The final whistle blew and out the curtain down on a tremendous performance by every single on of our lads. We now deservedly secure our place in LAST 32 OF THE FAI JUNIOR CUP!!

Some big showings on the day, particularly by Luke Thompson, Cian Hogan and goalscorer, Tiernan Daly but Player of the Match goes to Eric Goggin who played a pivotal role in earning a clean sheet and keeping the Tipp boys at bay.

Final score: Saints 1-0 Wilderness Rovers FC
